Day Services Volunteer

Location: St Vincent’s Hospice, Midton Rd, Howwood

 We are looking for friendly and organised people to help support the running of our Day Service programme for people with various needs. Volunteers will work as part of a team to make a positive impact on the patients by helping provide enjoyable activities. They will be supported by the day service coordinator to encourage and enable patients to participate in a range of social activities and groups and help build confidence and self-esteem.

They will empower people to socially interact while engaging in fun activities, helping to promote independence and reduce social isolation as well as providing an enjoyable experience.

Duties include:

  • Greeting patients and visitors to the hospice and guiding them through our sign in process.
  • Assisting day patients with mobility, diet, eating and drinking assistance.
  • Working with people who may have additional needs and variety of communication needs.
  • Regular communication with other team members and reporting any incidents.

Skills required:

  • Pleasant and welcoming manner with the ability to interact with people in a way that takes account of their individual, cultural and religious needs.
  • Reliability and good timekeeping.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn new skills.
  • Discretion and the ability to keep information confidential.
  • A good listener with a person centred approach
  • Willingness to adopt infection control procedures (self) and encourage others to comply with the same.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of working with a vulnerable client group is desirable but is not essential as training will be provided.

This role will require a PVG check to be carried out.

Time Commitment:

Day Services will run 7 days a week. We are ideally looking for volunteers who can commit to one 2-3 hour shift a week but could discuss other arrangements.
