Remembering Sammy Johnston
As part of Hospice Care Week 2025 (6th–12th October), St Vincent’s Hospice is honouring the memory of Sammy Johnston, who passed away at the age of 58 after a courageous battle with stage 4 brain cancer.
A much–loved husband, proud dad, and devoted grandad, Sammy was the heart of his family. Known for his warmth, humour, and love of life, he also had a passion for football, playing for clubs including St Johnstone, Ayr United, Partick Thistle, and Ballymena United. Beyond football, his greatest joy was always his family. 🌸
When Sammy was diagnosed, his world and theirs- changed overnight. St Vincent’s Hospice was privileged to walk alongside the Johnston family, providing compassion, care, and support through the hardest of days.
His family shared:
“Through the hardest days, St Vincent’s Hospice were there not only for Sammy, but for all of us as a family. Their compassion, care, and support gave us treasured time together and helped us through moments we never thought we’d be able to face. We will never be able to thank them enough.”
Sammy’s story is a reminder of the true heart of hospice care: being there for patients and families with love, dignity, and compassion when it’s needed most.
