Hospice Care Week Amanda’s Story

Amanda’s Story – Finding Hope and Independence at St Vincent’s Hospice

As part of National Hospice Care Week 2025 (6th–12th October), St Vincent’s Hospice is sharing the powerful story of Amanda, who has been living with advanced MS while coping with the devastating loss of her partner and son.

When Amanda was first referred, she was housebound, bedbound, and felt

“Lost in the system.”

With support from the hospice’s team-including clinical nurse specialists and social workers-Amanda began to process her grief, regain hope, and take steps toward independence.

With help securing a specialist wheelchair and extra care support, her dream of attending day services is now within reach.

During a recent stay for respite care, Amanda also enjoyed some well-deserved time for herself- including a fresh new hairdo that lifted her confidence and spirit.

Describing her experience, Amanda said

“The hospice stepped in and gave me hope when I felt everyone else had given up on me. No words can fully express the impact the hospice has had on my life. I feel the hospice has saved my life-they are phenomenal.”

This Hospice Care Week, Amanda’s story shines a light on the heart of St Vincent’s Hospice: to listen, to care, and to transform lives through compassion. 🌸
